Vinayaka Chavithi Special Bellam Thalikalu Recipe
Ingredients for preparation of Bellam Thalikalu:
Wheat flour | 1 cup |
Water | 6 cups + 1 cup |
Jaggery or Bellam | 2 cup |
Salt | pinch |
Elaichi powder | 1/2 tsp |
Dry coconut | few pieces (sliced), |
Cashew nuts | 12 to 15, |
Khus Khus | 1 tea spoon, |
Ghee | 1 table spoon |
Bellam Thalikalu preparation method :
Mix wheat flour, salt and enough water to make a firm dough and set aside for a few minutes
Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed vessel, fry cashew nuts to golden brown and remove.
In the same vessel, add 6 cups water and bring to a boil.
Add grated jaggery or bellam, reduce flame to medium, allow to simmer and thicken lightly.
Mean while prepare small balls of the dough and roll each ball into a thin long noodle (like a rope).
Place the rolled out noodles on a lightly floured plate and sprinkle some rice flour or whole wheat flour on them and lightly mix so that they don’t stick to each other.
Once the jaggery or bellam syrup lightly thickens, add the prepared noodles and on low flame cook till they become soft (15-18 minutes approx).
In a pan roast the khus khus, then fry the dry coconut pieces till golden brown. (Or you can use fresh coconut without frying).
Once the noodles cooked sprinkle roasted khus khus, roasted nuts, coconut pieces and Elaichi powder and mix well.
Bellam Thalikalu is ready now to offer as Naivedyam and serve.
