Dharmapuri Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam
Dharmapuri Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple is the ancient Telangana Temple, dedicated to Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The temple is located in the southern bank’s of Godavari River, Dharmapuri, Karimnagar District, Telangana.
The temple is famous for the Godavari Pushkaralu, Brahmotsava, Radhotsava which are celebrated with great devotion by the devotees.
Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple on the southern banks of the River Godavari is one of the most famous religious shrines in the Karimnagar district. This ancient Telangana temple is located in Dharmapuri town which is one of the nine Narasimha Khetrams. Also owing to the presence of a large number of temples in the area, Dharmapuri is known as “Dakshin Kasi” or the Benaras of the South. Dharmapuri is also called as ‘Teertharajamu’. Dharmapuri Village was ruled by the Kind Dharma Varma and thus the name of the village. It is beleived that the Temple existed before 850-928 BC.
This ancient Karimnagar temple shows Lord Narasimha seated in Padmasana – the typical yogic posture with his palms bending on his knees. He is flanked by his consort Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that this form of Lord Narasimha is a rare one. Hence the importance of this ancient temple of Karimnagar increases manifold in the eyes of its devotees.
Dharmapuri is a village as well as a Mandal headquarters in the Karimnagar district of Telangana state in India. Dharmapuri village earned spiritual importance because of the presence of the shrine, which is dedicated to the Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple has two very different idols of the lord Narasimha Swamy. The oldest of these idols is called “pata Narasimha Swamy” which means the older Narasimha Swamy and the temple that was established later is called “kotha Narasimha Swamy” which means the new one.
The Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is one of the most important settlements of Vedic Brahmins in telangana state. Every year in the months of March and April, devotees of the Lord come together to celebrate the famous Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Aalaya Jatara. The town, in the month of December, gets busy for the celebration of Mokshada Ekadashi.
