Murali Manohar Temple Kishanbagh Hyderabad

Kishanbagh Temple or Murali Manohar Temple in located in the Kishanbagh, Hyderabad has a fantastic story. The temple is named as Murali Manohar, the beautiful flute player – Lord Krishna. The temple is with high mud walls and the orange door soaring 30 feet into the air gives a hint of the glory days of the temple.

There is an interesting story behind the Murali Manohar Temple. According to one story – Raja Raghu Ram Bahadur who lived in Delhi had no children had a dream,. In the dream, he saw a garden and Lord Krishna idol buried 5 feet underground in Hyderabad. The dream was vivid about the location and the site. Then Raghu Ram Bahadur followed his dream and he came to Hyderabad on horses and searched for the location. They dug 5 feet deep and discovered this the Lord Krishna idol. The was was installed and a small temple was built. Raja Raghu Ram Bahadur had children once the temple was constructed and the prayers began in right earnest.

Even now the people believe that praying at this Murali Manohar Temple will help them bear children.

The other story according to historians, the temple was built by Raja Raghu Ram Bahadur who was a vakil or an agent of the Nizams. The temple was located in a garden which was closer to the dargah of Syed Shah Najmullah Hussaini. Raja Raghu Ram Bahadur helped to construct buildings to commemorate the Urs – the annual pilgrimage of the Sufi pir. The Nizam Sikander Jah granted 2 jagirs, one at the time when the temple was being built, and another for the naqqar khana or the drum house.

The space for the temple currently is a big affair with huge open grounds, plants, a step well and housing facilities for the temple staff. The drum house is a tremendous open quadrangle with various rooms built with carved stone and mortar.

What might have been the gaushala or a serai for the travelers are presently classrooms for the children of that area. Here, kids are dropped off by ladies whose faces are either covered with pallu or by a burqa. An ideal recognition for the temple builder who patronized both the temple and a dargah.
