Ingredients to prepare Poornam Boorelu :
Chana Dal | 2 Cup |
Grated Jaggery or Sugar | 2 Cup |
Cardamom Powder | 1/2 tea spoon |
Grated Coconut | 1/2 Cup |
Udad dal | 1 1/2 Cup |
Rice | 1/4 cup |
Oil | required for deep fry |
Salt | 1/2 tea spoon |
Ghee | 1 table spoon |
Poornam Boorelu preparation method:
Cook Chana Dal with 3 Cups of Water for 3 whistles. Drain the water completely from the dal, there should be no water.
Grind it along with grated jaggery/sugar and cardamom powder.
In a thick bottomed vessel or pan, heat the ghee and add the Chana dal paste.
Cook the paste on medium heat, stirring constantly till it is golden brown. Set aside to cool completely.
Soak Udad dal and rice in water for about 4 hours. Grind it with a little water to make a thick batter. Add salt mix well.
Heat oil in a pan.
Make 1.5″ balls of the Poornam and dip the Poornam balls in the batter. Ensure the Poornam is completely covered. Gently drop into hot oil and fry till golden brown.
Now remove from oil and place on the paper napkin to remove excess of oil and then Purnam burelu is ready to serve.
