Varalakshmi Vratam Significance

Varalakshmi vratham or varamahalakshmi vratham is one of the famous Hindu festival. Varalakshmi vratham is performed by the married women with great devotion.


Varalakshmi is the goddess of vara or boons, the consort of Lord Vishnu. The varalakshmi vratham festival is celebrated on the second Friday of sravana masam according to Telugu calendar.

The married women do fasting, offers special prayers and perform this vratham for the well being of their husband and family members.

It is believed that Worshiping Goddess Varalakshmi on this day is equal to worshipping Goddess Astha Lakshmi. Astha Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, earth, learning, love, fame, peace, pleasure and strength.

According to legend in ancient days a Brahman women named charumathi lived in a town called kundina. She loved her husband and family very much. One day Mahalakshmi appeared in her drams and asked her to do Varalakshmi Vratam for the health, wealth and prosperity of her family.

Charumathi performed Varalakshmi vratham with devotion and dedication. Pleased by her devotion Goddess Varalakshmi appeared and granted all her blessings to her.

Since then the news spread and now almost all the hindus are performing Varalakshmi vratham.
